JIBS Enhancement Groups

The JIBS committee has been represented for some time on the Web of Knowledge Enhancement Committee, together with Thomson ISI, JISC and MIMAS. This provides us with an opportunity to gather news on developments to pass on to the community, and enables us to feed back suggestions for product enhancements to ISI.

JIBS has recently set up a number of new enhancement groups with Ovid, British Standards and Scopus. We are hoping to have new groups in 2007 for Intute and EBSCO.

Are there any other suppliers that you would like to see JIBS work with in this way?

For example:
Cambridge Scientific Abstracts (databases); CSA Refworks;
MDL (Beilstein); Dialog;

Ingenta merger with Vista

It was announced on 2nd February that "Ingenta has agreed terms to merge with VISTA International, a leading global provider of software systems and support services for the publishing industry. The combined company, Publishing Technology plc, will be the largest provider of publishing-specific software solutions to the information industry."

Intute enhancement group

The management of the academic resource gateway Intute have invited JIBS to join them in setting up an enhancement group, in order that to established dialoge with the user community aimed at improving the quality and usefulness of Intute. Committee members Sue Cumberpatch and Ian Mayfield have agreed to represent JIBS, but we would like additional representation from amongst the wider membership.

If anyone is interested in joining the Group, please contact Ian (ian.mayfield@port.ac.uk) giving an outline of your position and experience.

Impact Factors 2006

Thomson Scientific are expected to release last year's impact factors in June 2007. The JCRWeb database (Journal Citation Reports) is available to subscribers through Web of Knowledge.

"as soon as a specific date has been advised by Thomson Scientific this will be circulated to relevant email distribution lists"

Britsh Standards News

There has been a slight delay in the delivery of the new search software for British Standards On line. The JIBS User Group will now be meeting with BSI in late March. When we have a clearer idea of implentation and acceptance testing dates we will post on this blog.
